Thrift Score...what is it?

scored this neat little Ammo Pouch this past weekend at the Preston Court Days Festival...looks like 1940s Era Duck Canvas with tons of Stitching, a very cool Crown Zipper and Brass Hardware...I'm guessing this little cutie is meant to be worn around the waist like a "Fanny Pack"?...so what about the chords?...any ideas?...there are four loops on either side of the pouch...

  1. From what I understand that could be a fanny pack for parachuting, possibly airforce, the cords could be used for smoke flares. I think this because I watched a video on YouTube a long time ago of the soldiers who were practicing jumping and deploying flares and the smoke flares were attached to strings around them.
