    amazing week-end in Louisville, Ky...took a side trip from my beloved Abbey Road On The River festival to the Beatersville car show...man, you just can't buy patina like that anymore...here are a few of my favorites....you can see more photos HERE ...             

when toys become REAL...Al Unser and the Johnny Lightning Special...

   when toys become REAL is every little boys fantasy and that fantasy became a reality in 1970 in the form of the "Johnny Lightning Special"...In late 60s Topper Toys mounted a challenge to Mattell and their #1 toy, the Hot Wheels die cast car...Topper never came close to Hot Wheels in terms of sales, quality or "coolness" but they did win the "Grand-Daddy-of-em-All", the Indianapolis 500 in 1970 and 1971...

as American as Apple Pie, Baseball and Mario Andretti...

In 1969 Mario Andretti won the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing", the Indianapolis 500 making himself, Andy Granatelli and STP a household name here in America...

best "THRIFT SCORE" ever?...

this post is for the pickers, prospectors and Treasure Hunters who, in a slump, think that all the "GOOD SHIT" has already been found...

this is the 1950s "Cadillac Special" built by Caroll Shelby and it hasn't seen the sunshine since the 1960s...it was originally built for a 1959 "All Racers" contest at the world famous Langhorne, Pa Speedway...this custom coupe was shipped East from California, qualified for the Pole and never took the Green Flag to start the race (over-heating) and was locked-up in a nearby New Jersey barn hoping to race another day, which never came ..here she is in 2010 rolling out of the darkness from where she had been stored (except for a few select joy-rides back in the 60s) for the last 50 Years...

these beautiful vintage Spectacles are Solid Silver and are from the late 1700s - early 1800s...they sold on Ebay a couple of days ago for about $300...

this sweet 1960s souvenir Astronaut's Jacket is from the Mercury Space Program Era (remember the GI JOE Space Capsule?)...
