I scored these fantastic shoes yesterday at one of my "glory holes"...these babies have "Fifties Rock and Roll" written all over them...I have never seen this shoe before and have no information (any would be appreciated)...they are called "Idlees" and they were made by Converse...sort of a textured Cloth/Canvas Upper with a Soft Gum Sole...I could definately see Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Gene Vincent or even "The King" rockin' these sporty kicks!

vintage Speedweeks...part 3

as early as 1903, (nearly 50 Years before there was a Daytona Race) racers flocked to Daytona to test man and machine...the hard-packed long stretches of Ormond Beach were perfect for Land Speed Records and became the standard until the more wide open spaces and longer stretches of the Bonneville Salt Flats became in favor...the test was the "Measured Mile"...the Measured Mile was actually a three mile run, Two miles to get your speed up and the third mile was timed...the Measured Mile was also the yardstick used to qualify the Stock Cars for the Daytona Beach Race of the 1950s...

that's my pops in the 97A (age 18) ready to start the Daytona Beach/Road Course...back in the fifties Tommie Elliott was one of the hottest stock car drivers on the East Coast...In 1954 alone, he captured four individual track championships from Florida to New Jersey and racked-up over 60 feature wins, unfortunately, Daytona wasn't one of them...
